So Long Christopher Hitchens
I went to see him several times and have a couple of signed books.
He was a dick about a lot of things, but he was an intelligent and articulate voice for atheism and mostly quite entertaining. He will be missed, and fuck cancer.

Very True!--And I will certainly miss him a great deal, because besides being sometimes a knob, and undeniably intelligent and incisively articulate he was deeply thoughtful and profoundly loving of humanity , willing to take the inane attacks of ignoramuses in an almost sacrificial way-and crucially, willing to change his mind. I think we have lost a man of great courage, a courtly knight errant who quested for the truth.
Unless one had tunnel vision one couldnt miss his humanity and his desire to liberate you from accepted 'truths', even if you disagreed with him.
He was one of very few men I thought genuinely heroic.

Marina, I think you're right that he was heroic. That's part of what made him different from some of the other famous atheists -- he led with his heart.
