Teen Pregnancy on 20/20
So I happen to be looking for something on the ABC news site and see a video from their news show 20/20 posted about teen pregnancy. They follow three teens who are dealing with pregnancy.
The first is a girl in Yakima, Washington, who's a cheerleader. Her boyfriend is a football quarterback. When she falls pregnant, he dumps her. You see her describing her situation and it's heart-rending; she's getting it out between gaspy sobs. "He gets to continue his life, I don't get to continue mine." The narrator says that nine out of ten fathers in teen pregnancies leave the situation. She's going to have triplets. She won't go to college and join a sorority, instead she will join the "sorority of teen mothers."
The second segment features a teen couple in Haverill, Mass. The boy is working full-time as a cook to support his child and future wife. He seems really sweet. But they say they didn't really discuss contraception or anticipate problems. Her response when she finds out she's pregnant — "what am I going to do? how am I going to get through this?"
Third, in Louisville, KY, a 14-year-old pregnant girl is determined to be the first in her family to graduate college. She says she and her boyfriend, also 14, used protection but somehow it didn't work — don't know if it slipped off or what. She is determined to do what she can to be successful to make her life and her child's life successful.
What' s missing from these stories? ABORTION AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO HAVING THE BABY.
It's as if abortion didn't even exist. No one mentions it even to say they decided against it.
